Michael John Hartman

(01/24/2020)

Michael John Hartman was born on 10/23/54. He was the first born child to Christina and John Hartman who loved him fiercely. Michael had five younger brothers and sisters: Tina, Guy, Cathy, Allen, and Elise. Michael’s life was marked by tragedy at the tender age of 4 ½ months when he contracted meningococcal meningitis, damaging his hearing and brain. After years of doctors, tests, and special schooling attempts, Michael’s condition never improved. He lived in various places throughout his life, most recently in Toms River, New Jersey. Michael loved food, visits from his devoted family, and formed a special bond with his close friend Umbie. He was the inspiration for his parent’s work on the Americans with Disabilities Act, which benefited countless people with conditions similar to his. Michael taught his family the importance of compassion, loyalty, and unconditional love. He will forever be in our hearts and minds. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4. Rest in peace dear beautiful brother.
Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM on Tuesday January 28, 2020 at Our Lady of the Visitation R.C. Church located at 234 N. Farview Avenue, Paramus. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations in Michael’s memory to EIHAB Human Services New Jersey, Inc. 1007 Hwy 9 North Suite 202, Howell, NJ 07731.
