Anita Theresa Carlin

(08/09/2019)

(nee Scocozzo), aged 60, passed away on August 9th, 2019 after valiantly fighting cancer with her trademark positive attitude and million-watt smile for 2 and a half years. Anita was born March 26, 1959, in Paramus, NJ, the daughter of Nicholas Scocozzo and Rose Scocozzo.
In 1983, Anita married the love of her life, Patrick Carlin. Anita and Patrick were the ultimate soulmates- you rarely saw one without the other. Together they traveled the world and spent more time together in their 38 years as a couple than most could hope to spend in a lifetime.
Anita was a 36+ year “IBMer” and found some of her closest friends (turned family) at work. She was a mentor and confidant to countless colleagues who came to her for advice on everything from their careers to their parenting.
Anita lived for time spent with her treasured daughters Crystal and her wife Mindy. Anita was a mother that gave everything of herself no matter what the circumstance to ensure that her children were happy.
Anita is also survived by her siblings Christopher Scocozzo, his wife Francine and his daughter Marisa, Robert Scocozzo and his sons Robert and Jeffrey and countless other friends and family members who she treasured.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 South Farview Avenue, Paramus, NJ. Family and friends are asked to gather at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Annunciation R.C. Church, 50 W Midland Ave, Paramus for a Funeral Mass. Private Cremation.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Brave Like Gabe Foundation: bravelikegabe.org ("Support rare cancer research and empower all cancer survivors through physical activity.")

One of a kind! Anita will be missed by many like me who were touched by her. She was a great boss, and a friend. She was always there unselfishly to listen and give genuine sound advise. She will be missed. My deepest and most sincere condolence to Pat, Crystal and her family and friends who loved her so much.

I had the privilege of having Anita as my manager at IBM and she set the bar very high. She wasn’t just a mentor and coach, she became my friend and we went out for drinks together and talked about life, our Italian mothers. I’m very sad to hear of her passing. My deepest sympathies to Pat and Crystal and family. God Bless.

Crystal and Pat - I had the honor and privilege of working with Anita in my role as IBM Counsel supporting Morgan Stanley and other accounts she covered through the years. Anita and I worked very closely on several intense deals in the past few years. I was always in awe of her dedication, stamina and hard work but most of all of her kindness and warmth. She radiated goodness and shared that with all those who were lucky enough to know her. She has left this world much too soon, and I am so terribly sorry for your loss. She will be dearly missed.

I am so sorry to hear about Anita’s passing. I have worked with Anita on and off for about 10 years before and during my time with IBM. Every interaction with her was was a pleasure. She was sincere, fair, friendly and always happy. Anita was a rare individual whose concern for the individuals well being superseded those of the corporation. Your success was her success. Anita will be missed.

I've sat next to Anita off and on over the last 4 years at IBM though we worked in different areas. I'm still in shock as I had no idea she was sick. She was absolutely one of the nicest people I ever met. I remember we talked about a book on her desk which talked about succeeding in business while still being a nice person; that book epitomized her persona. Seeing her and Pat together was such a nice thing, they just got along so well it was a beautiful thing to see. I am so very sorry that this nice person was taken so young. My condolences to her family. She will be greatly missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Anita toward the end of my IBM career, and I enjoyed her positive attitude and energy to focus on all of our possibilities rather than what “can’t” be done. But, I also have to say, she was a master at the IBM machine to clear the way for us at the same time. She and I would talk about shopping for handbags the next time I would make a trip to NYC for meetings, and I know it would have been lots of fun to spend some free time with her! I am so sorry for your loss, and I know that Anita is in a much more comfortable place, free of cancer and pain. My thoughts and prayers of comfort are with you. Anita was a dynamo.

I met Anita many years ago at the IBM 590 underground parking garage. We spent many more times together talking about systems group, IBM and being a working mom. She was truly a wonderful person; warm, genuine and giving. My heartfelt thoughts are with her family today.

I met Anita at IBM and quickly she became a close friend. She was always upbeat, positive and kind. She was part of some big milestones in my life and I will never forget what a great friend she has been. I love you, my friend. Go in peace. We shall meet again and I promise I will be there to take people out of cabs that they try to steal from you :-)
