Ernest Nicholas Dawal
88, of Advance , NC formerly of Rochelle Park, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born in Clifton, New Jersey on October 23, 1921 to the late Joseph and Selma Dawal.
He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 62 years, Angel R. Dawal. He leaves behind a loving son, Ernest, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Kathleen, and their children, Brendan and Jocelyn, as well as a daughter, Angel Eder and her husband Richard Eder of Garfield, New Jersey and their children Ricky and Danielle.
Ernest lived most of his life in New Jersey, but came down to North Carolina to be near his son and his family. He served 35 years on the Rochelle Park Police Department and retired as Chief of Police. He also served his country during WWII, as a member of the U.S. Army Military Police. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, boating, riding motorcycles, socializing with friends and family, and his wife’s cooking. We will cherish all the fond memories.
The family would especially like to thank all the staff at Bermuda Village Catered Living for their kindness and understanding during the last three years. The family would also like to thank the nurses, physicians and staff at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, and Dr. Hart III for their caring and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
Private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
