age 63, of Englewood Cliffs, formally of Franklin Lakes, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 due to pneumonia.
Born November 10, 1945 in Volos, Greece to Lambros and Helen, he came to the United States at age 10 and graduated from Emerson High School in Union City, NJ. Socrates served one tour in Vietnam with the US Army until 1967. Shortly thereafter he met Phyllis whom he married November 25, 1973.
Socrates was a shining example of the American dream. Coming to America with only the clothes on his back, he worked tirelessly in the restaurant business to save enough to open his own restaurant. In August 1976, he purchased Chicken Unlimited (now Chicken Supreme) in Paterson, NJ. Over the next 30 years, he built up a large customer following for his fried chicken and the business grew to be a tremendous success.
He will be especially remembered for the love and support he gave his wife Phyllis and two sons, Gregory and Jason, his love of travel across the globe, his sharp intellect and his enjoyment of conversation.
Survivors include wife Phyllis, son Gregory and wife Heather, son Jason and wife Vicky, grandsons Lukas and Noah.
